MDTC Code of Conduct and Practice - including the Dress Regulations
LAST UPDATED: 6 March 2007
The MDTC Code of Conduct and Practice Incorporates the Tennis Australia Code of Conduct for tournament and match events held at Memorial Drive. Specifically, Pennant, Metro, Country Carnival and similar competitions will be conducted under the Tennis Australia Code.
For the purposes of implementing the MDTC Code, the term Referee used in the Tennis Australia Code will mean the Club Captain and/or any member of the MDTC Management or Match Committees where no Tournament Referee is in place and Player shall mean any person playing tennis at Memorial Drive. In addition to the Tennis Australia Code, the following MDTC Conduct and Practice processes will apply:
- MDTC CODE & PRACTICE
MDTC will not accept any conduct that brings either the Club or Tennis into disrepute, irrespective of whether or not the incident involved falls within the Code of Tennis Australia. MDTC applies only two penalties to Members for breach of its Code, viz: a four match (or equivalent) suspension or expulsion from the Club A member on report for a MDTC Code breach shall be suspended pending a Management Committee decision on the penalty, if any, to be applied. The Management Committee shall be the sole authority on the application of the expulsion penalty.
Unacceptable conduct by non MDTC members will attract one warning (not necessarily the two prescribed in the Tennis Australia code) and unacceptable conduct thereafter will result in termination of play by the offender. Where the Tennis Australia Code provides for no prior warning for conduct of a particularly serious nature, that provision will apply to the MDTC Code. Termination of play will occur by:
The match being terminated by a MDTC player (not necessarily the offender) being withdrawn from play. Where that occurs during a competition event, the MDTC officer that causes play to be terminated will sign off the termination of play on the score sheet and add an explanatory note. The incident will then be referred to the relevant competition Association for determination on the result that is to be recorded for the match and any further action that the competition Association may take. An incident report to the competition Association would be prepared by the MDTC officer and forwarded to the competition association, the offending players club and the MDTC Management Committee.
Where the offender is a MDTC player and the match is terminated, a default will be incurred. That default will count as a match suspension in any further penalties applied against the player.
Where offensive behaviour occurs, and no MDTC member is involved and resistance to termination of play is encountered after due warning, the responsible MDTC officer will remove (or cause to be removed) the net on the court. No other court is to be available to the offender after a net has been removed.
MDTC dress requirements call for proper tennis attire to be worn at all times when playing at MDTC (as distinct from match play in the Tennis Australia Code). If proper attire is not used at MDTC, action may be taken in accordance with the Tennis Australia Code. That is, the player be given the opportunity to change to acceptable attire. Play ceases if the requirement is not met.
